Robbinsdale officer shoots woman holding knife

A woman holding a knife was shot Thursday evening by a Robbinsdale police officer responding to a 911 call of an "unwanted person," the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said.

The woman, whose name and age were not released, was transported to an area hospital, Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek told reporters. He said her condition was not known.

Police responded to the call around 5:40 p.m. at an apartment building at 3755 Hubbard Ave. North. A statement from the sheriff's office said the woman "refused to comply with officer commands and was subsequently shot" by the officer.

Stanek said his investigators were still interviewing people on the scene and gathering evidence. His department will handle the investigation at the request of the Robbinsdale Police Department.
