Off-duty sheriff's deputy involved in gas station shooting

Two people were injured early Friday in a shooting at a Norwood Young America gas station.

Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson said that it involved a sheriff's deputy from nearby McLeod County and an unruly patron at a Kwik Trip.

"The off-duty officer was just here getting some gas. He was on his way home after his shift was done. A struggle ensued," he said. "Both parties have sustained non-life-threatening injuries and there was a firearm that was discharged."

Olson said the struggle and the nature of the injuries are under investigation. He said the unruly patron was found at another location, and that the deputy was still wearing part of his uniform.

The incident is under investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
