The funeral for 10-year-old Barway Collins will be pushed back a week so his mother can attend the ceremony.

Pastor Harding Smith announced Friday that Collins' mother should be on her way to the United States from Liberia.

Smith said the decision to delay the funeral came about after members of the Collins family negotiated with Liberian immigrant groups that are helping raise money to bring the boy's mother to Minnesota.

"This funeral for little Barway, this is what he would want: A united community coming together ... as we send him away," Smith said.

Collins' father Pierre has been charged with murder in connection with the boy's death.
