Layoffs at Target Corp. continued Thursday as the Minneapolis-based retail giant eliminated 100 administrative assistant jobs. The company also announced it would not fill 40 open similar positions.

Target said in a statement that laid off workers will receive a minimum of 15 weeks of pay as part of a severance package based on their years of service. The company also said it will continue to pay the employer portion of worker benefits for the next six months.

Thursday's announcement comes on the heels of layoffs in early March that left 1,700 employees out of work and another 1,400 positions unfilled . The job cuts in both Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park are part of an initiative to save $2 billion, the company has said.
