Sorry, William — your brief reign as the most popular male baby name in Minnesota is over. The new king? Henry, according to Social Security card application data released by the government.

The most popular female baby name? Olivia, for the second year in a row (it was also No. 1 in 2011 and 2009).

Coming in second for male and female names were William and Emma, followed by Liam and Evelyn in third.

Those names are in line with national trends.

The government last week said the most popular name for boys born in 2014 was Noah (ninth on Minnesota's list) and Emma for baby girls.

Liam was the second most popular name for boys, while Olivia was the runner-up for girls.

Nationally, William was fifth on the list of most popular baby names for boys; Evelyn was 16th.

Henry, however, was 33rd — but maybe Minnesota is just ahead of the curve. It's been steadily climbing in the ranks. It was 37th on the national list for 2013, 43rd in 2012 and 57th for 2011.
