The Institute of Medicine wants to streamline the measures we use to assess health care in the United States.

The institute's report, "Vital Signs: Core Metrics for Health and Health Care Progress," recommends 15 core measurements it believes will improve our health system.

Dr. Jon Hallberg says the new metrics are necessary to prevent physicians from receiving false accolades, and to protect them from false accusations.
