Auditor: Urban League did not double dip

A review by Minnesota's legislative auditor found no evidence the Minneapolis Urban League improperly used state funds for its education programs.

The investigation was requested by Sen. Michelle Benson, R-Ham Lake, after she read a newspaper article questioning whether the League was getting paid twice for the same costs.

Urban League Interim CEO Steven Belton says the organization runs two programs — the Urban League Academy and the 13th Grade — which contain some of the same students.

"There was some overlap of participants in the 13th Grade who were also students in the Urban League Academy, but that's not double billing," he said.

Sen. Benson says she's satisfied with the results of the assessment.
