Big red ball rolls into Rochester
A traveling public art exhibit featuring a giant red ball will be on display in Rochester starting Saturday.
The RedBall Project features a 15-foot, 250 pound inflatable red ball. It's a well-traveled ball, having been on display in more than two dozen cities, from Paris to Taipei.
"As far as having a piece of public art that you can literally touch and run into and truly engage with, that's just a really fantastic opportunity," said Jenna Bowman, executive director of Rochester Downtown Alliance.
During its time in Rochester, the red ball will be placed in seven different locations. Over the course of each day, the ball will start deflated and slowly inflate to fill different spaces, including Mayo's Plummer building doors and the pedestrian bridge to government center.
The project is work of New York-based artist Kurt Perschke. In addition to the seven Rochester sites, the Rochester Art Center will exhibit a collection of Perchke's drawings and collages through Aug. 15.
The display runs through June 12th.
