Sunday growler sales begin this weekend

Minneapolis, home to a craft-beer boom, has approved Sunday growler sales starting this weekend.

For Tom Whisenand of Indeed Brewing Co. in northeast Minneapolis, that means a chance to take advantage of weekend tourists.

"When I say tourists, [I mean] people from adjacent states," he said. "You might come to Minneapolis for a wedding for the weekend, and you're from Iowa. Sunday is your get-back-home day, and you might have an opportunity to stop by and pick up a growler and take it home."

The Legislature passed a law this year allowing taprooms and brewpubs to sell the jugs on Sundays, just like every other day of the week, but it's up to cities to approve the practice.

Duluth is also jumping into Sunday growler sales this weekend. Rochester already allows it, and St. Paul is expected to start next month.

Correction (June 15, 2015): An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that St. Cloud, Minn. would begin Sunday growler sales this weekend.
