West Bank School of Music decides to move

After 45 years, the West Bank School of Music has announced plans to sell its building and move.

For the past several years the school of music has struggled with declining student enrollment and financial troubles.

The school's board announced Friday that after thoroughly analyzing its options, it feels the best solution is to sell its longtime home in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, whose upkeep was the source of some of the financial strain.

"While we are sad to be leaving the West Bank community, the difficult decision to move was reached to allow WBSM to continue its work to make music accessible to the broader community, including providing scholarships and discounted lessons and classes to students of all ages and backgrounds," said the announcement.

The school has yet to announce say where it plans to relocate.

Because of the move, the school's annual summer youth band camp has been postponed from June to August, and will be held in St. Paul.
