Mpls. firefighters save two workers from skyscraper

Minneapolis firefighters rescued two maintenance workers from near the top of the Wells Fargo Center Wednesday afternoon.

Battalion Chief Timothy Baynard said the workers were replacing window caulking on the outside of the building when their scaffolding malfunctioned and tilted to one side.

He said the workers were able to lower the rig several stories, where firefighters let them into the building through a window.

"They were able to lower themselves down to the 50th floor," he said. "But we had to get with management and find keys to access the window so we could get them inside the building."

No one was injured, he said.
