New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Ta-Nehisi Coates of The Atlantic tackled the subject of race and violence in poor African-American communities.

Landrieu, who is white, thinks there is a "culture of violence" and people need to change the way they reconcile their differences. Coates, who is black, thinks there is a "culture of self-preservation" and a need to "destroy white supremacy."

The Aspen Ideas Festival moderator is Jeffrey Goldberg. They spoke June 30, 2015.
