Friday Festivals: Floodwood Catfish Days

This week's festival brings us to the Northern Minnesota town of Floodwood for the 34th Floodwood Catfish Days.

Catfish Days kicked off today at midnight with the beginning of the weekend-long catfishing competition. Other events include a parade at noon on Sunday and live music throughout the weekend.

Festival chair Ryan Farrell joined MPR News' Tom Crann to talk the yearly celebration in the self-proclaimed "Catfish Capital of the World."

If you want to pair that catfish with a side, check out Deer River's Wild Rice Festival running today through Sunday. A Wild Rice Dinner starts at 11 a.m. Saturday.

In Lindstrom, the Karl Oskar Days Celebration has been underway since Wednesday and continues through Monday, July 13. Events include tours of the Karl Oskar house beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and a grand parade 6 p.m. Saturday.

The first weekend of Walnut Grove's Wilder Pageant begins tonight at 7 p.m. The pageant features live performances of an outdoor drama based on author Laura Ingalls Wilder's life while she lived in Walnut Grove. It runs for two more weekends, with a final performance on Sunday, July 25.
