The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has identified the Plymouth police officer who fatally shot a person in a fast-food restaurant Thursday night.

BCA officials said that shortly after 8 p.m., Officer Amy Therkelsen, a seven-year veteran of the force, responded to a 911 call about a person with a weapon inside the Arby's located along Hwy. 55 just west of Hwy. 169.

When Therkelsen arrived, two people were trying to subdue the suspect. She used her Taser, but it had no effect on the suspect, BCA officials said. During a struggle, the suspect reportedly tried to grab Therkelsen's gun. She fired and fatally wounded the suspect.

The BCA said Therkelsen was slightly injured, but no one else besides the suspect was hurt.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office will identify the suspect after an autopsy.

Once the BCA completes its investigation, it will turn over its findings to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office for review.
