Activists say Mpls. cops used excessive force during arrest

An activist group claims Minneapolis police officers needlessly pepper sprayed members of its group Wednesday night in north Minneapolis.

In a Facebook post, the group called the Black Liberation Project said two of its members were videotaping officers arresting a teenager when the officers arrested them. The group claims an officer or officers pepper sprayed and threw the observers on the ground.

The police report says officers arrested three people on riot charges. A 51-year-old woman who was arrested received medical treatment.

Police say a hostile crowd formed around officers while they arrested the teenager, who was given a citation and released. Police spokesperson Scott Seroka says the incident is under investigation and declined to comment further.
