Art Hounds: Don't see this Fringe show

This week on Art Hounds, we take a look at "New Works by So-And-So," pay a visit to a tattoo parlor in St. Cloud, and are told to NOT see a particular show at the Fringe.

Augsburg College Adjunct Art Professor Brandon Kuehn loved the feel of "New Works by So-And-So," a group show currently up at Instinct Art Gallery in downtown Minneapolis. He says the show is whimsical, smart and yet accessible to the non-art savvy. Kuehn was charmed particularly by a sculptural piece that featured seaweed slippers, referencing the Irish myth of the "selkie." The show runs through September 12.

Artist Sarah Drake recommends people show up at Cream City Tattoo in St. Cloud for the closing reception of works by Joseph Muehlbauer. Muehlbauer works with fibers, found objects and water colors to create a wide range of mixed media art. Drake loves the intricate detailing, and says the show left her inspired.

Tane Danger is the co-founder of The Theater of Public Policy. He says a former improv student is putting on his own current events/improv show at this year's Minnesota Fringe Festival, and frankly, Danger is feeling threatened. "Fringe Tonight! with Jonathan Gershberg" features meaningful discussions on the environment and racial equality, followed by uplifting and insightful improv. Danger says "By all accounts this will be a fantastic show — please miss it!"
