Chisago Co. man drowns in St. Croix River

A 20-year-old Chisago County man drowned in the St. Croix River Tuesday afternoon.

Rico Marice Davis of rural Chisago County was with friends shortly before 4 p.m. in an area of the St. Croix River about three miles northwest of Nevers Dam, according to the Chisago County Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement officials say Davis was in an 8-foot-deep section of the river that was when he started having trouble staying above water. By the time Davis' friends moved him to shallow water, he was unresponsive.

Davis' friends performed CPR on him until paramedics and a Life Link emergency helicopter arrived, according to the sheriff's office. Life-saving efforts were called off at 4:42 p.m.

The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the incident.
