Severe disagreements over soutions for Lake Mille Lacs

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources closed walleye fishing on Lake Mille Lacs early this year, amid concerns about falling walleye numbers.

A working group tasked with looking into the walleye problem on Lake Mille Lacs will meet for the third time this morning. The group is make up of lawmakers, administration officials, and Mille Lacs residents.

Gov. Mark Dayton wants to call a special legislative session to deal with the issue, but has encountered resistance among both Republican and DFL lawmakers.

Tom Weber talked with Rep. Tom Hackbarth, Co-chairman of the Legislative Working Group on Mille Lacs Lake, before Hackbarth headed into today's meeting. They discussed what to do about the walleye problem on Mille Lacs and whether the Governor should call a special session.
