Prosecutors: Use of force justified in death of teen
The Ramsey County Attorney's Office has determined the shooting death of a 16-year-old in a St. Paul park last month was justified.
Lavauntai Broadbent had a gun and was trying to rob the man who shot him, according to court documents. St. Paul police said the shooter, who is identified only as K.L., had a valid permit to carry a gun. K.L. administered first aid to Broadbent after shooting him.
Minnesota allows the use of deadly force in order to prevent great bodily harm or death.
Four other teenagers have been charged in connection with the attempted robbery and other crimes, including reckless discharge of a firearm and auto theft.
