Police chase, collision briefly close 2 blocks of downtown Mpls.

A two-block stretch of Nicollet Avenue in downtown Minneapolis was temporarily closed Thursday morning after a chase ended in a collision with a police vehicle.

Officers attempted to pull a vehicle over for a suspected narcotics violation at about 4:40 a.m., said police spokesperson John Elder. The driver refused to stop and drove around the area at a low speed until the driver crashed into a squad car at 14th Street and Nicollet Avenue.

The driver and officer were both hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries. The officer has been released from the hospital. The suspect is in custody.

Police said Nicollet Avenue was closed between 13th Street and 15th Street after the crash, shortly before 6 a.m. The street was reopened about a half-hour later.
