This week on Art Hounds, a visit to David Petersen Gallery in Minneapolis, remembering a "Life of Beauty" in Duluth and an evening of classical Indian music in Bloomington.

Macalester College gallery curator Greg Fitz admires the work David Petersen has been putting up at his gallery in Minneapolis, so Fitz makes a point of seeing his shows, even when he's not familiar with the featured artist. He's looking forward to this weekend's opening of "Agon," a solo exhibition of new paintings and drawings by New York-based artist Lizzy Marshall, inspired by items of Greek antiquity.

Artist and writer Ann Klefstad says she predicts half of Duluth will be at the opening of a new show of the late artist Karen Burmeister's work. Burmeister was an active artist in the community who died of pancreatic cancer; the exhibition features a number of collages that until now have not been shown in public. Klefstad says the images of gates and journeys have particular resonance now that Burmeister's gone.

Padma Wudali plays the veena — a classical Indian instrument — and so she's excited to see local master veena player Nirmala Rajasekar in her next performance this Sunday at Normandale Community College. Rajasekar will be performing with three musicians visiting from India, and Wudali is particularly interested in seeing the veena and flute — two of the most ancient instruments — playing in harmony.
