Six people shot in downtown Minneapolis overnight

Six people were injured by gunshots after an altercation near a light rail platform in downtown Minneapolis early Saturday morning.

According to police, gunshots were fired shortly after 2:30 a.m., following an altercation on North Fifth Street, between Hennepin and First Avenues.

The six people wounded had non-life threatening injuries and were treated at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Nearby officers arrested three people and recovered two guns.

Mayor Betsy Hodges and Police Chief Janae Harteau both released statements condemning the violence and praising the work of the police officers who responded to the scene.
