Court documents show evidence that Brian Short bought the shotgun he used to kill his family and himself just a few days before the shootings.

Investigators say Short killed his wife Karen and three children in their home on Lake Minnetonka earlier this month. Applications for search warrants filed Monday in Hennepin County District Court show that investigators found the purchase paperwork for a Remington 12-gauge shotgun.

The warrant says the gun was bought at a Gander Mountain store in Eden Prairie on Sunday, Sept. 6. Police believe Short used it to kill himself and his family late Monday or early Tuesday.

Investigators also say the children were found in their beds, and wife Karen on the floor between the master bedroom and bathroom. Documents say the owner's manual to the shotgun was found near Short's body in the garage, where they say he shot himself.

The documents also show investigators are looking for a suicide note, but haven't found one yet.
