Fargo cop shoots suspect after stolen car chase

Fargo police shot a 31-year-old man early Monday morning after he allegedly pointed a handgun at an officer.

Police were called around 3 a.m. on a report of a vehicle driving erratically. They were told the suspect had a gun. The vehicle was stolen and had been involved in an earlier pursuit outside of Fargo.

When an officer found the vehicle, the suspect pointed the gun at him and the officer fired and hit the suspect, Fargo police chief Dave Todd said.

"As the scene was preliminarily processed, it was discovered the gun was a BB gun or pellet gun that is a replica of a real gun," Todd said.

Police are not yet releasing the name of the suspect or the officer. The suspect is being treated at a Fargo hospital. A female suspect was not injured, but was arrested.
