Delta Air Lines will add daily nonstop service from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to Rome starting May 26 and running through its 2016 peak summer season.

Rome will be Delta's fifth long-haul international destination from the Twin Cities and the 10th peak-day flight between the U.S. and Italy for summer 2016, the airport's largest carrier said Monday.

"We are very excited about Delta Air Lines' decision to launch service to Rome," Jeff Hamiel, executive director of the Metropolitan Airports Commission said in a statement. "Direct service to Rome gives businesses, colleges and civic organizations in Minnesota another opportunity to attract visitors from the Mediterranean region of Europe."
