Amazon.com is now offering to deliver everything from milk and eggs to TVs within an hour throughout much of the Twin Cities.

The service is for members of the Amazon Prime loyalty program, which costs $99 a year. One-hour deliveries are $7.99; two-hour service is free. Orders can be brought just about anywhere a customer wants, said company spokesperson Aaron Toso.

"If you're tailgating for a Vikes' game and you want some snacks brought down, your delivery person can bring it right down to you. Or if you're at the park or anywhere else," he said.

Deliveries will be made between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. by firms working with Amazon, which opened a sorting center in Shakopee this summer and is building a fulfillment center there, too. Shoppers must use Amazon's smartphone apps to place orders.

Target is experimenting with same-day food delivery through a partnership with San Francisco-based Instacart. Schwan's, CobornsDelivers, and Lunds & Byerlys have offered home food delivery in the Twin Cities for many years.
