Zebra mussels reported in 2 more Minnesota lakes

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says zebra mussels have spread to two more Minnesota lakes.

A citizen involved in a monitoring program reported a single zebra mussel in Lake John, in Wright County, in late September. But surveys revealed a more widespread infestation.

Lake John is not a candidate for current treatment methods because the infestation is widespread. The lake has been added to the infested waters list.

In another case, a single zebra mussel was recently reported in Bryant Lake in Eden Prairie by Three Rivers Park District staff.

Dive searches revealed no additional zebra mussels in the lake. DNR invasive species specialist Keegan Lund says Bryant Lake will be monitored the rest of this season and next year, but no treatment is necessary at this time.
