Winona police: Shooting victim didn't know attackers

Police searching for two suspects in the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man Sunday in Winona say the shooting was deliberate but there's no indication the suspects knew the victim.

Witnesses told police the suspects demanded money before shooting 31-year-old Adam Tylor Fort of Winona. He died at the scene.

It appears "the suspects in this case believed that the individual had money in his apartment and that's why his specific apartment was targeted for this incident," Winona Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said. "There's no indication right now that there was even any significant relationship or knowledge of them."

The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money and fled from the 1200 block of Gilmore Avenue in a dark-gray four door passenger vehicle. A witness told police the suspects' car had a Wisconsin license plate.

It's the first homicide in Winona this year. The investigation is ongoing.
