Twenty-five new Minneapolis police officers and one Park Police officer will hit the streets this week.

The group was sworn in during a ceremony at the St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church Tuesday night.

Besides being more ethnically and racially diverse than previous classes, the graduates range in age from 21 to 47 and come from a wide variety of experiences.

"We have military veterans, clergy, attorneys, corrections, private security, fitness instructors, a banker, armored car driver," said Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau. "Now that's diversity."

One of the graduates, Angela Osbeck, is the daughter and sister of Minneapolis police officers.

"So I think in the first time in the history of this department, we have father, son and daughter," said Harteau.

The addition of new police officers comes just after Harteau announced that she would be reassigning officers to respond to a recent spate of killings.

The class was in training for 30 weeks. The new officers will start five months of field training on Thursday.
