Emily Larson will take over as the new mayor of Duluth in January. She was elected with 72 percent of the vote Tuesday. Opponent Chuck Horton garnered 27 percent of the vote.

Larson will replace the city's current mayor, Don Ness, who announced last year that he wouldn't seek re-election.

Larson promised during her campaign to focus on continuing the city's economic growth and increase the city's tax base.

"Some of the challenges moving forward will be: How do we ensure the city grows together, how do we make sure that all of our neighborhoods benefit from what's going to happen in the next chapter of Duluth, and how do we really unify the experience of being a resident of the city?" she said.

Cathy Wurzer spoke with the mayor-elect Larson about her plans for the city.
