What should colleges be doing to address racial tension on campus?

University of Missouri President Tim Wolfe may be the first casualty this semester of racial tensions on college campuses, but you can bet other college leaders are watching what happened there with a lot of apprehensions. And they should.

College students of color in California, Alabama, Illinois, Michigan and Oklahoma have all experienced racial discrimination.

At the University of Oklahoma, last spring a video of a fraternity singing an anti-black chant prompted the school's president to disavow the fraternity.

What are college leaders doing to get out in front of racial tensions; before videos, slurs, and protests occur?

MPR News with Kerri Miller hosts a professor at Missou who has written about her own experiences with racism on campus and the author of an upcoming book about the politics of race on college campuses.

Miller's guests include: Lawrence Ross, a writer, lecturer, and author of the upcoming book, Blackballed: The Black and White Politics of Race on America's Campuses; and Cynthia Frisby, professor of strategic communication at University of Missouri School of Journalism in Columbia, Mo.
