DNR says plenty of pheasants remain in Minnesota fields

Wildlife managers say Minnesota pheasant hunters should keep their gear handy.

The Department of Natural Resources says plenty of roosters remain in the fields, and hunting pressure has been light this season. Warmer- and drier-than-average conditions earlier in the season made it tough for hunters and dogs to find pheasants, but the cooler temperatures and recent rains should make it easier for dogs to pick up the scent of birds.

Cory Netland, the DNR's area wildlife supervisor in Willmar, says people may not realize that hunting success probably has been as good this season as it's been for the last three to five years in many parts of Minnesota's pheasant range.

The daily bag limit rises from two to three on Dec. 1, while the possession limit rises from six to nine.
