KC and the Sunshine Band's hit song was toned down for radio

Today's Morning Edition music is from "That's the Way (I Like It)" by KC and the Sunshine Band, which was No. 1 on the Billboard pop chart 40 years ago Wednesday.

It was the second of five songs by that band to top the charts.

Lead singer Harry Wayne Casey says that when he first wrote the song, the "uh huh, uh huh" part sounded a lot more like moaning and groaning. He toned it down a bit to make sure the song could be played on the radio.
