Lucinda Jesson wrapped up her five-year tenure on Monday as Human Services Commissioner. She's leaving for the bench; Governor Mark Dayton appointed her to the Minnesota Court of Appeals.

Dayton picks human services chief for judgeship

On Wednesday, she spoke with MPR's Tom Weber to discuss her time at DHS and the man issues that were front and center during her time, including the state's Sex Offender Program, safety issues at the Minnesota Security Hospital, and child care facility oversight.

Lucinda Jesson has wrapped up her five-year tenure as Minnesota's Human Services Commissioner. She's leaving for the bench after Governor Mark Dayton appointed her to the Minnesota Court of Appeals.

Lucinda Jesson wrapped up her five-year tenure as head of Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) on Monday of this week. Jesson, who will now be a judge on the Minnesota Court of Appeals, will be succeeded by Governor Mark Dayton's general counsel, Emily Johnson Piper.

Jesson will join MPR News host Tom Weber to talk about some of the main challenges facing DHS, including the Minnesota Sex Offender Program and the Minnesota Security Hospital. They will also look ahead to her job on the court.
