Dayton says BLM protest risked danger to others
Gov. Mark Dayton wants the Legislature to pass a Real ID bill before the next regular session begins in March. He's calling for a special session after the Department of Homeland Security denied a request from the state to delay implementation of new security-enhanced drivers licenses.
Currently, Minnesota licenses do not meet the federal security requirements. And unless that changes, sometime next year people will not be able to use a Minnesota driver's license to get through airport security. Those licenses are already not valid ID at military bases and other federal facilities.
He also said a protest Wednesday at the Mall of America and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport risked danger to others.
MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Dayton.
