Does your doctor talk to you about physical activity? If not, the topic could move to the forefront of clinic visits clinic soon.

Just in time for all our 2016 resolutions, a new piece in the Journal of the American Medical Association calls for doctors to make it a priority to give "physical counseling."

There's "overwhelming evidence" that physical activity is one of the most important health practices for doctors to recommend, the report says, because it can help prevent many chronic diseases ranging from heart disease to depression.

Dr. Jon Hallberg joined MPR News' Tom Crann to discuss why physical activity is so important and how to talk about it with your doctor.
