Woman attacked in home invasion at Maplewood senior housing complex

Maplewood police are searching for three suspects in an armed home invasion.

Chief Paul Schnell said a 75-year-old woman was leaving her home in a senior housing complex Saturday when a woman in her 20s asked to use the phone. The victim refused, and the suspect pulled a gun and forced her way in. Two men arrived and helped ransack the home, taking jewelry, a driver's license and credit cards.

"They directed the woman to get down on the floor," Schnell said. "They wrapped an article of clothing around her neck and she was strangled to the point of unconsciousness."

The woman was not seriously hurt.

Schnell said surveillance video from several stores shows the two male suspects using the victim's credit cards.

He said similar images also show the pair shopping with credit cards taken in a December burglary at the same housing complex.

"Investigators now believe the two incidents are connected," Schnell said.
