This week on Art Hounds: "Sunshine" gets a stormy staging, bluegrass with brunch, and art made from the detritus of life.

Self-described theater geek Barbara Beresford thoroughly enjoyed Dark and Stormy Productions' staging of "Sunshine" at the Grain Belt Warehouse in Minneapolis. The story centers on a stripper and her flight from her abusive husband into the arms of an unsuspecting paramedic. Beresford said the actors give remarkable performances as the play navigates both sexual desire and the quest for real intimacy. Performances run through Jan. 9.

Photographer Kelle Green recommends checking out the work of artist Heather Cole, who makes beautiful and useful objects from other people's trash (think plastic bottle caps and single-serving coffee pods). One of her favorite items of Cole's work is a lamp that looks like a spiny sea urchin. Cole has a new show up at the Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson, Wis., through Jan. 17.

Musician Elliot Novak is a fan of the High 48s, a bluegrass band known for playing classic tunes alongside their own compositions. Novak loves the upbeat rhythms and the sweet harmonies. This month and next, the High 48s are taking up residence at the Aster Café, where they"re performing a "Bluegrass brunch" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
