Nearly 50 dogs that were rescued from a farm earlier this month will soon be ready for adoption.

The Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley says the 23 adult dogs and 24 puppies were living in a hog barn in rural Carver County. Their owner had been told he was being evicted, but refused to remove his dogs.

KARE-TV reports the dogs are mostly hounds, setters and pointers.

The Human Society tried to work with the property owner, but a relocation deadline expired and the organization rescued the dogs.

Each dog is being assessed for medical needs. Most of the adult dogs will be available for adoption in the next several days, while puppies will be in foster care with their mothers until they are old enough for adoption.
