Ski jumpers from across the Midwest competed Saturday evening at the Bush Lake Ski Jump in Bloomington in an event hosted by the Minneapolis Ski Club. Spectators watched from the edge of the landing ramp as the 30 skiers completed their jumps, some as long as 80 meters.

The 70-meter tall Bush Lake Ski Jump was built in January 2000, joining the existing 25- and 10-meter jumps. It is owned by the Three Rivers Park District, but managed and operated by the Minneapolis Ski Club. It regularly hosts regional and international events and over a dozen Olympians have trained on it.

In ski jumping, points are awarded for distance and technique. Any contact of the body with the ground upon landing results in a disqualification. The sport has been a part of the Winter Olympic Games since the modern games began in 1924.
