40 years ago, 'Love Rollercoaster' rides to top of pop chart

"Love Rollercoaster" by the Ohio Players hit No. 1 on Billboard's pop chart 40 years ago.

At one point in the song it sounds like a woman is screaming in the background. Soon after the song came out, an urban legend started that suggested the scream was the sound of someone being murdered, falling off a roller coaster or being burned with scalding hot honey.

Band members refused to comment on the legend because it helped sell records. Eventually, they revealed the scream belonged to the band's bass player who was uninjured.

To hear the scream, listen closely after the lead singer says "ow."
