St. Paul schools to take another look at holiday celebrations policy

The St. Paul school district plans to review its stance on holiday celebrations after one principal's plan to halt them before Valentine's Day sparked controversy.

A board committee will review the district's celebration policy, which already discourages holiday parties in school. But no board members called for substantive policy changes.

Chair John Schumacher said the district should promote inclusive celebrations.

"We celebrate many things in our district, and many cultures," he said.

Bruce Vento Elementary's principal proposed ending all holiday parties, in part to relieve pressure on low-income families. District officials say none of the complaints they've received came from Bruce Vento parents.
