St. Paul man arrested after stealing Metro Transit bus

A 31-year-old St. Paul man was arrested after stealing a Metro Transit bus Wednesday night.

The transit agency said the driver had stopped for a break near Marie Avenue and Robert Street in West St. Paul just before 10 p.m. Spokesperson Howie Padilla said that while the driver was away from the bus, it disappeared.

Police were called and the bus was located going west on Interstate 494 by using GPS technology.

The State Patrol and airport police joined the search and the bus was stopped without incident along the interstate near the Mall of America about 10 minutes after the initial call. Police are investigating.

Officials say it's too early to tell if the Metro Transit driver will face discipline in connection with the incident.
