Teens attack Metro Transit driver near Southdale Mall

Metro Transit says a bus driver is recovering from serious injuries after a group of five to seven males allegedly assaulted him last Thursday at Southdale Mall. Edina police say the incident happened around noon.

Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla says the driver exchanged words with the group before the attack. Authorities say no weapons were used, but the driver suffered a head wound and had no recollection of the attack. Padilla says the driver's injuries had the potential to be life threatening.

"From what I understand, he is recovering at home and the injuries were quite serious. And we're just really hoping that he comes to a full recovery," he said.

Padilla says "at least one" juvenile is in custody.
