Fargo police seek community help in fighting drug trafficking

Fargo police are asking for the community's help in fighting drug trafficking.

At a press conference on Tuesday, police showed off heroin, methamphetamine, prescription drugs, guns and cash seized from a suspected drug dealer. John Iten, 23, was arrested and faces a variety of charges drug and weapons charges, including intent to distribute drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.

Fargo has a growing drug problem, said police Lt. Shannon Ruziska.

"As we arrest one, another one will try to come back in," she said. "We want to send a message that if you come to Fargo, we're going to arrest you, we're going to put you in jail and and we're going to try to put you in prison."

Police say they don't know if the heroin seized from Iten is linked to several recent deaths from heroin overdoses.

Fargo Police Chief Dave Todd says the community needs to provide more help for a growing number of people addicted to drugs.

"But on the enforcement side we're going to aggressively go after these kind of people that are bringing this poison into our community," he said. "And we're not going to apologize for being aggressive about doing it."
