One dead in afternoon shooting near Olson Memorial Highway

Minneapolis police are urging more witnesses to come forward following a shooting Wednesday afternoon that left a man dead on the city's north side.

Department spokesman Scott Seroka said officers responded to a report of gunfire around 3:30 p.m. and found a man dead near Olson Memorial Highway and Penn Avenue North.

"Preliminarily we do believe there was an exchange of gunfire between at least two people in some sort of a dispute," Seroka said.

He said no one is in custody, but witnesses have been cooperative. Four investigators have been assigned to the case, Seroka said, and officers will be canvassing the area to talk with neighbors, address concerns, and gather more information.

Police closed part of Olson Memorial Highway to give investigators room to work as they collected evidence. The shooting was the city's eighth homicide of the year.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call 612-692-TIPS.
