Dayton takes aim at GOP transportation plan, optimistic on tax, bonding bills

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton
Gov. Mark Dayton presented two transportation proposals Monday to Democratic Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk and Daudt. Both would raise $600 million annually for the entire state, but one includes a 5-cent gas tax increase while the other relies heavily on increasing license tab fees.

The clock is ticking until the end of the legislative session on Monday. Lawmakers are heading into the final weekend still deeply divided on key issues.

That's left many wondering whether any major deals will be struck this year, and where that leaves the state on issues like transportation funding and other priorities the parties have laid out.

Gov. Mark Dayton has been meeting privately with legislative leaders over the past couple of days to try to hammer out a path forward. But so far, there doesn't seem to be much progress.

MPR's Cathy Wurzer spoke with Dayton.
