MN United unveils new stadium renderings, gets liquor license
Minnesota United FC has unveiled new renderings for its upcoming stadium in Midway St. Paul.
The new images come days after the team got two of its three asks from the Legislature: a liquor license and a property tax exemption for the stadium.
"This is a catalytic opportunity for Saint Paul and a huge potential moment for our state," St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman said in a statement.
Minnesota United FC's third request was an exemption on sales tax for construction materials, which the Legislature said is already included in state law. Coleman's office said in a statement that the city had requested an up-front exemption because it's "easier from an administrative perspective" and now contractors will have to ask for a refund after buying materials.
The team's "urban village" concept for the stadium area appears to be moving forward as planned, with an opening date sometime in 2018.
Bill McGuire, the team's owner, is scheduled to present current stadium site plans to the Snelling-Midway Community Advisory Committee on Thursday.
