Twins suspend pitching coach after DWI arrest

Minnesota Twins leaders said Thursday the team has indefinitely suspended pitching coach Neil Allen with pay after learning of a pending charge against him of driving under the influence.

Allen was hired in 2014 as the Twins pitching coach. He spent much of his professional life as a baseball player or coach, including recent coaching stints with the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Yankees organizations. In past news stories, he's acknowledged that he is a recovering alcoholic.

The Twins named Eric Rasmussen interim pitching coach. Rasmussen has spent the last eight-plus seasons as the Twins minor league pitching coordinator.

The team said it would have no further comment on the matter.
