Zika Virus: What we know

Over 600 cases of Zika virus have been reported in the United States as of June 1st, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

The White House asked for $1.9 billion in emergency funds to combat spread of the virus, but the request was put on hold while Congress was on spring break.

As Congress returns to work this week, MPR News reporter Euan Kerr asks what we know about the virus, its vectors and what the public health response will look like at the Olympics and in the US.

He spoke with Paul Roepe, co-director of the Georgetown Center for Infectious Disease and Kristy Murray, associate professor of pediatrics - tropical medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine.
